In Search of the Monument for Human Rights

A bit of a slow start to the day with a catchup on journals and laundry, we eventually got organised and set off in search of the Monument for Human Rights (I may as well fess up that we were never successful in doing so!)

We did manage to find many other monuments including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Armed Services and Indigenous Armed Forces memorials. There were also many wonderful pieces of art to be discovered including a full scale bronze sculpture of Canada’s jazz pianist Oscar Peterson (complete with his baby grand piano and continuous music being played). We also found several beautiful parks and stopped for hot chocolates at several Starbucks (we now have our Starbucks reward card fully functioning and it is getting a decent work out, let me tell you). We wandered around taking in the sights and sounds and braving the cold wind until eventually conceded defeat on the mission of finding the desired landmark that we had set out to find and headed back to the hotel. Mark arrived home shortly after to find us all freezing and ready to eat. Dinner was an interesting affair with the restaurant consisting of a number of different food stations where you used your ‘credit card’ (issued to you upon being seated) to ‘charge’ your food selection. You then paid your bill at the time of exiting. I had an awesome wood-fired roast vegetable and goat cheese pizza while the boys selected roast chicken and pasta… great food and a nice mellow way to enjoy our last Canadian meal together.
